Two years ago, a team of ERUUFians started out on a Vision Quest to look into the best practices for doing justice work in a congregation of our size. Their final report was completed in December 2014 and led to the appointment of a Transition Team to implement their recommendations.
The Transition Team has been hard at work over the past 1 ½ years and will officially complete its work this fiscal year. Working in collaboration with the members of the existing Justice Council, the Team has strived to put in place a clear vision, a more transparent and effective organizational structure and a means of funding and evaluating our Justice Ministry. The restructured Justice Ministry Council will be led by co-moderators Amassa Fauntleroy and Tom Fletcher.

As envisioned, the Justice Ministry will be organized into five Areas of Concern –
- alleviating poverty,
- advancing human rights,
- building beloved community,
- caring for the earth and
- partnering with other groups.
Each Action Group, defined as any team that engages in specific programs, initiatives, services, events, or relationships that are directly involved in justice work, will fall into one of these areas and can easily find and collaborate with other groups working in the same area of concern. As we move into this system, adjustments may be made to the Areas of Concern to best fit the realities of what is happening. Each Action Group will be asked to consider how their program utilizes the five types of justice work.
