The Ministerial Search Committee met for the first time on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Having been approved by the congregation to carry out a search and recommend a ministerial candidate for a congregational vote, we are excited about the important work that lies ahead. We have already begun learning about the UUA’s recommended procedures and guidelines for the search process. Using these guidelines will enable us to benefit from the wisdom gained through many years of experience with ministerial searches throughout the denomination. Please note that we will be using this as a guide. Each ministerial search is unique to the congregation and the time it is taking place. Those who would like more information on the process can find it online in the Settlement Handbook.
One of the first steps in the process is a search committee retreat with a UUA Transition Manager. The retreat is an important formative experience for the committee. It will provide a strong foundation for future work, especially in times of stress. It is also the time when discernment around specific committee roles takes place, when we clarify some process details, and we establish the initial timeline. Our retreat is planned for Monday, August 23.
As we move forward with our work, we will need to hear from you! There will be multiple opportunities to provide input into the congregational record we will provide for future candidates. The document will outline our congregation’s hopes and dreams, regarding what we are looking for in a minister. Collecting this information is a crucial part of the search. No ministerial candidate, whether an inside or outside candidate, can know if ERUUF is a place to consider until we articulate what we are looking for in a minister and what kind of place we want to be. Since we last did a ministerial search, some members have left and some new ones have taken their places. Members who have participated in feedback before now have more experience at ERUUF and may have new ideas and goals to contribute. We look forward to hearing from all of you.
We will try to accommodate the different styles of participants. We realize there are some who prefer written assessment, those who would rather work in small groups, and others who would like the freedom to participate in one of several listening forums. We also have an email address at ERUUF that will forward to all members of the search committee. If you have thoughts or questions about the process, please contact us at .
We appreciate the trust you have placed in us. We look forward to hearing from you and to getting to know you better as we work together to call a settled minister. We cannot do this important work without your help and support!
