SESSION 1 FOCUS: WEALTH and ECONOMY - What is the history of the black economy in Durham? Did you know that before urban renewal Hayti was seen as a self-sufficient community from cradle to grave for black families?
Based on the Durham Racial Equity Task Force, where are we now, and how do we get to a better place?
Did you know that while Durham’s population is 40% black, black-owned businesses generate only 2.5% of the city’s business revenue?
OBJECTIVE: Identify ways in which we can join with on-going efforts to narrow the racial wealth gap in Durham.
PANELISTS: Henry McKoy, business professor NCCU; Camryn Smith, ED Communities in Partnership; Cory Hogans, DRETF Wealth/Economy subcommittee
Participants are encouraged to purchase take-out from a black-owned restaurant!
