In 1970’s Colorado, an African-American detective attempts to infiltrate and expose the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. This film won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture. According to the Washington Post, this is Spike “Lee’s best and most necessary movie in years, confronting his audience with facts no less urgent for being painful to see clearly, much less accept.”

Friday, May 17: Hidden Figures
… tells the inspiring, untold story of brilliant African-American women mathematicians who crossed all gender and racial lines to work at NASA in the 1960s. They calculated critical NASA flight trajectories including trajectories for the launch of John Glenn, a stunning achievement that turned around the Space Race. This gem received three Oscar nominations.
