On Sunday January 30, 2022, members of the Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (ERUUF) enthusiastically voted to call Reverend Jacqueline Brett as new Lead Minister. Reverend Brett currently serves as ERUUF’s Minister for Congregational Engagement and will begin their new role in Summer 2022 following the planned departure of current Lead Minister, Reverend Deborah Cayer. Individual Unitarian Universalist congregations select their own Lead Minister, unlike many religious denominations whose congregational leadership is assigned centrally.

Reverend Brett brings a wealth of talent, leadership and experience to the position of Lead Minister, with a robust background in worship, program development, pastoral care, administration, and racial equity and social justice. “ERUUF is eager to begin this new chapter with Reverend Brett and we are all excited about the vision they have for ERUUF and the wider community,” said Bonnie LaCroix, Chair of ERUUF’s Board of Trustees.

Candidating Week begins this Sunday, January 23, and ends on Sunday, January 30 with both services led by Rev. Brett, our candidate for Lead Minister.

Please be sure to register for the Congregational Meeting on January 30th! 

During the coming week, there will be opportunities for people to meet in small groups and engage in a Q&A with Rev. Brett. Click here to see the calendar of meetings. If you are part of a specific group, your group leader will send you a Zoom link for the meeting to join that discussion. 

There will also be a general session on Tuesday the 25th from 5:30-6:15 pm for all others who would like to speak with Rev. Brett prior to the Congregational Meeting. For this general session, you will need to register here.  A member of the Ministerial Search Committee will send a Zoom link to all those registered for the general session. 

We have also posted additional useful information including a Frequently Asked Questions document and a link to the Congregational Record. The Music Director Search Team has been continuing with our process of searching for ERUUF’s new Music Director. In the late summer and fall, we established the position description and identified outreach strategies in order to recruit a diverse range of candidates. We continue to receive a number of applications from qualified candidates; we have developed a timeline and a process to identify the candidates that best fit the values and characteristics defined in the position description.

To date, we have received 20 applications; we are pleased that our assessment process has enabled us to thoughtfully but efficiently eliminate those who are least suited to our fellowship. We will continue to accept new applications until the beginning of February when we will narrow the pool of applicants down to our final candidates. The first phase of our multi-stage interview process will be Zoom interviews and intensive reference checks with our top candidates. We are currently on target to meet our goal of announcing our new Music Director by March 31.

The Omicron variant is currently infecting nearly 40% of the people in our area (that's just about 2 out of every 5 people), many of whom are fully vaccinated. To help slow the spread, at this time, ERUUF programs continue to be either outdoors (with masks and social distancing) or online only. And we live stream worship on Sunday morning (available by recording afterward as well). We have patio heaters and other support for outdoor classes. And as usual, the use of outdoor campus space must be arranged through the Office.

This plan for meeting only online or outdoors will continue through January 31 (or as long as cases remain high in our area). We will continue to monitor public health conditions, and rely on the expertise of ERUUF's public health safety advisors. And we'll continue to follow the guidance provided by the CDC, NCDHHS, and UUA.
