ERUUF Recognized for Volunteers at Homeless Shelter

ERUUF was recently recognized as the #1 congregation by Urban Ministries of Durham for the most volunteer hours for 2017.  The ERUUF team logged in 1267 hours for our low income and homeless neighbors.

Urban Ministries’ largest private funder sets the amount of its annual grant to UMD at 10% of the overall support, including volunteer hours.  So, the more hours we log, the more grant funding UMD receives to help clients.  This year, each hour of volunteer labor was worth $22.14, making ERUUF's volunteer support worth $28,000.

Our nearest competing congregation has already pledged to step up its participation.  So please consider joining the ERUUF team.  There are multiple opportunities to help. Every FridaySaturday and Sunday, led by captains Pat Yonaitis, Mary Ellen Walkama and Jim McQuaid, ERUUF picks up food at Food Lion and delivers it to UMD.  Led by captains Marlys Ray and Judith Lyon-Mitchell, each month the team makes casseroles and cookies for the evening meal.  Twice a month the team cooks and serves a meal at the Shelter led by captains Steve and Susan Criscenzo, Shelagh Kenny, Kim Walker, Bob Hollister and Bo Glenn. Team members also work in the Food Pantry and Clothing Closet each week.

If you would like to volunteer, talk to one of our captains or email the Homeless Action Group at .
