"Casserole Composer" for Homeless Action

ERUUF's Homeless Action Group provides dinner for Urban Ministries Community Cafe in Durham one Sunday per month. As one of five "Casserole Composers" in a given month, you would prepare a 30-serving casserole in your own home using our recipe, and deliver the casserole either to ERUUF or the shelter. You can prepare your casserole in advance and store it either fresh or frozen at ERUUF. Homeless Action supplies the pan(s), you donate the ingredients. A coordinator provides reminders of your scheduled commitment and logistical support. Casserole prep can be a group- or family-friendly activity. Sign up for as few or as many months as you wish. We are now signing up cooks for 2017.

Childcare coordinator

ERUUF seeks a volunteer childcare coordinator for events. It's easy - a list of available childcare attendants is kept up to date by the RE office.

Specifically, here's what the coordinator would do when a request comes in for childcare:

1) Send the list of available childcare attendants to the group requesting childcare.

2) Let the event coordinator know that:

  • At least two childcare aides are needed for care even if there is only one child;
  • The group uses their budget to pay for care (12$/hr per aide), and they pay the aides for a minimum of an hour even if no childcare ends up being needed;
  • Childcare needs should be confirmed at least a week in advance.

The event coordinator can then contact the childcare aides directly, and plan where to meet and when.

Clicker and Care Ministries Tabling

Having a clicker at work draws people to the Care Ministries Table on Sunday. The Care Team would like to have someone from Clickers sit at the table after each service while working on a project and be ready to answer questions about our caring ministries. Come to the Care Ministries Table after the service you already attend and stay through Coffee Fellowship. Training will be provided and you can sit with another experienced person before going solo.

Denominational Affairs Committee chair

We are looking for someone with an interest in maintaining our connection with the larger UU organization to chair the Denomonational Affairs Committee. The committee meets quarterly, oversees the selection of delegates to the District Annual Meeting and General Assembly each year and arranges for ERUUF representation at periodic Cluster meetings of local UU congregations. The Denominational Affairs Committee tracks specific areas (e.g. UUA or Southeast District news and events, Chalice Lighters) to keep the congregation informed and encourages broader awareness of our UU scope.

Garden Committee chair

We have willing members of the committee who have demonstrated long-term commitments to keeping ERUUF gardens beautiful. They just need a coordinator.

Among its duties, the Garden Committee will

prioritize garden projects,
submit a budget request annually,
set up continuity of records for keeping garden knowledge in house, and
work with our administrator to decide when and for what tasks to retain outside help for landscape maintenance.

Coordination of volunteers who do much of the actual gardening work is done by the volunteer coordinator, a member of the garden committee; currently that person is Barbara Beaman. The committee works collaboratively, sharing tasks as needed, and in coordination with the Building and Grounds committee, currently chaired by Peter Romeyn. Members of the committee include Rick Searles, Ann Ringland, Beth Harvat, Nancy Henley, Barbara Beaman and Ruth Baker.
