This needlecraft ministry brings comfort to members and friends of ERUUF, as well as to local organizations, through hand-knitted or crocheted items (block blankets, care shawls, hats, and baby items.) Clicking also encourages knitting and crocheting as spiritual practices.

Clicking for a Cause is currently meeting once a month in person on the 2nd Saturday of the month for fellowship, to plan projects made from blocks donated by members, and to coordinate donations. For those who are interested, we also meet once a month via Zoom on a weekday evening during the fourth week of the month.

Our members individually craft 7” x 9” knitted or crocheted blocks. As a group, we assemble these blocks into blankets and shawls. You can find patterns to knit or crochet the blocks here.

We also create children’s clothes and teddy bears. For the colder months, we create hats, scarves, and mittens.

The organizations we have supported include Duke Hospice, Welcome Baby, UNC Doula program, Meals on Wheels of Durham, Urban Ministries of Durham, TROSA, and Threshold Clubhouse.

We welcome newcomers of all levels from the most experienced to those who are looking to learn a new skill. Even if you do not knit or crochet, we welcome anyone who would like to participate. Other ways that members contribute are by delivering donated items and by stitching blocks together into blankets and shawls.

Our mission is threefold:

  • To create comfort and warmth for our community through gifts and donations crafted from needles and yarn.
  • To encourage needle workers to transform the rhythm of knitting and crocheting into a spiritual practice.
  • To promote Unitarian Universalism through our donations and by opening our activities to needle workers seeking community.
