Sweet Success
Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the card-writing campaign conducted by ERUUF's justice group Protecting Separation of Church and State.
In a 30-minute meeting with one of Rep. Valerie Foushee’s aides on Jan. 30, Helen Wolfson and Eric Thomas hand-delivered 180 colorful handwritten messages asking her to cosponsor H.Res 773, which honors the separation of church and state and opposes “extreme right-wing Christian nationalism.”
They also delivered 14 messages to Deborah Ross and a few each to Reps. Hudson, Knott, Edwards, and Harrigan. More messages were mailed to Reps. Foushee and Ross about a week later (18 more to Foushee; 3 more to Ross).
On Feb 20, Rep. Foushee was added as a cosponsor!

Expanding ERUUF’s Food Drive
The Multicultural Team (MCT) is expanding ERUUF's response to help people in Durham experiencing food insecurity. The MCT is collecting food for the Emanuel Food Pantry (EFP), a weekly mobile food distribution service located at Iglesia Presbiterianna Emanuel (Durham Presbyterian Church). The EFP serves over 860 families every week.
On the first Sunday of the month, ERUUF’s collection goes to the Urban Ministries of Durham. The MCT/EFP food drive is focusing on the items most needed: breakfast cereals and protein. Beginning in March, this will be an ongoing food collection.
The collection schedule with the needed items is as follows:
