The Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (ERUUF), is pleased to announce its Fall 2026 Artist In Residence, Creative Expressionist, Jasmine Powell.

A Creative Expressionist from Hillsborough, NC, Ms. Powell pushes beyond traditional dance boundaries to evoke deep emotional connections. Powell’s international career is marked by performances that blend storytelling, embodiment, and the hidden stories within each dancer. She holds a BA from Oberlin College and an MFA from Hollins University, completed in partnership with the American Dance Festival and Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in Germany. She has performed with distinguished companies and choreographers such as Philadanco and D/2, Dance Diaspora, Dianne McIntyre, Milton Myers, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, Bill T. Jones, Okwui Okpokwasili, Justin Tornow, Kristin Taylor Duncan, Culture Mill, Princess Johnson, Moving Spirits Inc., The Magic of African Rhythm, Suah African Dance Company, Chania Wilson, and Matthew Rushing.

Powell’s research in biological and applied dance science, along with her knowledge of African diasporic traditions and somatic practices, informs her artistic work and teaching. Her choreographic premieres demonstrate her multiple roles as co-curator, director, producer, choreographer, and performer. Her work has appeared in regional, national, and international festivals. She has also created award-winning dance films and choreographic features for East and West Coast music videos, merging dance with visual storytelling.

Founder of Jasmine Powell Creative Expressionist LLC and an Assistant Professor at Elon University, she is a recipient of the 2026 National Dance Educators Organization Outstanding Dance Educator in Higher Education Award and is certified in Alvin Ailey Certified Horton Teaching, Pilates, and Conscious Resilience Coaching. Integrating dance and somatics, Powell honors the cultural histories embedded in our body-based personal narratives. This philosophy continues to shape her contributions to dance through a persistent creative expressionist lens.

Jasmine will collaborate with ERUUF’s Worship Team in co-creating a service featuring poetry and dance on Sunday, October 25 at 11:00 AM. Other elements of Powell’s residency include:
