ERUUF's Memorial Garden provides a peaceful, secluded place to reflect and meditate, hold memorial services with interment of ashes, and memorialize a loved one with a plaque. In 1980 members used existing landscape from the original home on the property to create this garden nestled in a pine grove. Maintained totally with volunteer help, this garden needs a lot of care removing pine cones, branches and weeds.

ERUUF's Memorial Garden is designed to provide a peaceful, secluded place for our members, friends and their loved ones to reflect and meditate as well as being used for some memorial services and interment of ashes. Members may also memorialize a loved one with a plaque in the garden.

Care of the garden, which is located to the right of the patio entry, has been overseen by Nancy Henley in recent years, with the help of other garden volunteers.  There is continual maintenance such as pruning, weeding, care of pine straw mulch and picking up those endless pine cones and limbs. Individuals and Covenant Groups are invited to contact Barbara Beaman to learn more.

The garden was established in the late 1980's, building from gardens that existed in a grove of pine trees on the original home site.  The stone walls and garden design were contributed by ERUUF founding members, Fran and Bill Hollister.  Overtime ERUUF members, led by Fran Hollister and Phyllis Magat, installed the original plantings which included azaleas, camelias, Kousa dogwoods, and a coral bark maple.  Current members have renewed plantings over the years.

Use of the Memorial Garden for interment or memorials is arranged with the Lead Minister or designee and is addressed in detail in the ERUUF Memorial Garden Policy. Emphasis is placed on peacefulness, so adults and children are encouraged to stay on paths and respect the memorial space.
